This year will be our 10th Annual Chili Cook-Off and how exciting that we will be holding it in our BRAND NEW BUILDING.  The Chili Cook-Off section of the website is updated with new registration forms!  Please visit the Chili Cook-Off tab for all documents related to the cook off!

Due to being in the new space, I will be holding a planning meeting on Monday, October 9 in the band room at 6:30pm.  All parents interested in helping plan and coordinate the event are welcome.  We will need a lot of volunteers, so any help is appreciated.  Students will receive 2 forms and a parent letter this upcoming Monday to prepare for the event.

Have a great long weekend!

Why get one sneak peek, when you can have two?  Check out the new commons area for students.  Not only will students be here for group work, lunch, dances, and so much more, but this is also the new area for our Chili Cook-Off!!  So much room where all participants can be in the same vicinity!  This year's fundraiser will be awesome!  Save the date: BCMS 9th Annual Chili Cook-Off- November 4, 4-6pm.

I hope everyone has had a rested summer and is as excited as I am to start our brand new school year.   As we gear up for the first day of school, I wanted to send out some quick reminders for students.  Please see your band section below for information regarding the first week of school!  See everyone Monday!

Mrs. Gauldin

Beginning Band (Band I)
Any one that rented instruments over the summer will receive their instruments the 1st day of school.  Students may take the instruments home and leave them there for a few weeks.  We will be learning some theory and mouthpiece information before playing our instruments.
Students will receive a handbook the first day of school.  This will have all mandatory dates regarding the band program. Please read this information carefully and return it signed the next day!

I look forward to meeting all of our new band members.

Advanced Band (Band II)
Students returning to band should make sure that they have necessary materials for class as we will be playing the first day.  Please check to be sure that you have plenty of reeds (at least 5), cork grease or valve oil, silk cleaning swab, drumsticks/mallets, and a folder for music.

We will be using the Standard of Excellence Book 2 this year for our daily method book.  This is different from last year.  Please be sure to pick up the level two book for your child's instrument.  Please see the picture below so that you know which "color" to pick up.  Scales Street Music in Reidsville and Moore Music in Greensboro have a good selection right now.  Please pick them up as soon as you  can!

I look forward to seeing everyone!  I've missed you all.

It's the Final Countdown!

We are in the home stretch in preparing for our event tomorrow!  Please see final reminders and items still needing attention below!

I am also glad to say that the website appears to be working properly again! ::fingers crossed::

REMINDERS
  • All families should bring one "batch" of individually wrapped baked goods with them to the cook-off tomorrow.  Please set them up on the bake sale table in the back left of the cafeteria.
  • Students should wear band attire if they have it.  Students who did not purchase a band shirt should wear school colors (gray, navy blue, or white)!  All students must wear closed-toe and heeled shoes for safety during the event.
  • Anyone entering the cook-off should be set-up no later than 3:30 in order to be judged.  Judging will begin promptly at 3:30 so that all chili can be sampled before we let our guests eat.
  • All students should be at the school no later than 3:45 and check in with Mrs. Gauldin to let her know they are there.  Students may check out with Mrs. Gauldin at 6pm unless they have signed up to clean after the event.

HELP WANTED!
I am in need of a parent supervisor (help students work) for the following areas.  If you are willing to help, please let me know.
  • Chili Service (Supervise 4pm - 6pm - help serve if needed so that chefs may take a break)
  • Dining Room Hospitality (make sure that things are running smoothly downstairs)

DONATIONS STILL NEEDED - if you can provide these, please comment below so that I do not purchase them
  • Gallons of sweet tea - TOP PRIORITY
  • Cans of soda - we will not sell soda unless this is donated (these are 3 for $9 at Lowes Foods this week)
