About our Program

The BCS Band program began in 2007 with 12 wind players. Our current program is home to 71 wind and percussion players in grades 6-9.  We complete several performances throughout the year with standard and new repertoire.

Interested in Band?

Any student in 6th or 7th grade wanting to learn to play an instrument can sign up for our beginning band class. Students will learn to read music, basic music theory, pre-Baroque music history and start learning to become proficient on an instrument.
Students in beginning band can play flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone or percussion. Saxophones and percussion are often popular among students, so there is a limited number of positions for these instruments. Students will select their instrument the first few weeks of school, so purchasing an instrument before the school year begins is not recommended.

THE DIRECTOR

Amanda Gauldin has been the band director of BCS Bands since 2008. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelors of Music Education. While at UNC-G, she studied under Cort McClaren and Andrew Dancy in Percussion Studies as well as performed with the Symphonic Bands as Percussion Leader, and UNCG Athletic Pep Band for four years.

In her spare time, Mrs. Gauldin enjoys cooking, scrapbooking and reading. She is also very active in her church.

Mrs. Gauldin is a member of North Carolina Music Educators Association, Carolina Bandmasters Association, and Percussive Arts Society.
